Relax & De-Stress
• 15-20 drops of Lavender E.O. can be added to bathwater to calm, soothe, and relax before bedtime. Use 6-12 drops in children’s bedtime bathwater.
• One drop on the temple or nape of the neck provides relief from headaches, particularly when they are stress related.
Beauty Care
• Lavender is the most versatile and useful of all the essential oils for hair care, skin care, and much more. It works with all hair types, encourages hair growth, and is very helpful for treating dandruff and/or psoriasis of the scalp.
• Lavender essential oil works well in combination with other essential oils, and it’s one of a very few essentials considered safe enough to apply full-strength. In addition, lavender oil is very helpful in reducing stress. High stress levels can lead to many common hair and scalp issues, especially hair loss and alopecia arreata.
• Make your own hair mask! Using this beautiful hair regimen from India, you can improve the health of your hair and scalp and it’s this simple: Take one ounce of organic coconut oil (which aids in cooling the scalp, which helps to strengthen the roots of your hair), add 10-15 drops of organic lavender essential oil (Rosemary, Cedarwood, Tea Tree and Sage essential oils are also good additions) and massage into your hair and scalp. Leave it on for at least one hour and up to overnight. You can wrap a warm, towel around your head for better penetration, then wash your hair as usual until your scalp squeaks clean to ensure that all the oil has been removed.
Pain & Healing
• Use essential oil neat as an antiseptic, mild sedative and painkiller (particularly on insect bites), stings and small burns. Blended for use in massage oil, Lavender E.O. is specific for throat infections, skin sores, inflammations of all kinds, rheumatic aches, insomnia and depression.
• For burns, apply the essential oil immediately and repeat several times throughout the day to greatly reduce the degree of the damage to the skin and promote healing.
Kitchen & Bath • Make your own home cleaning product…it’s SO easy! Simply fill a spray bottle with 2 cups of lavender hydrosol and 2 tablespoons (or more) of white distilled vinegar and 15 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. Other essential oils with good cleaning properties can be added as well; consider lemon, pine or tea tree. This makes a great surface cleaner, the best part being that you don’t have to worry about nasty chemicals contaminating anything on your countertops and your animals will thank you for providing chemical-free floors that are safe enough to lick. For extra cleaning power for stained sinks, bathtubs and toilets; first sprinkle baking soda on the area and then spray with the lavender and vinegar spray. Watch as it foams your grime away! When adding baking soda, make sure to rinse well with hot water or it may leave a cloudy residue.
CAUTION: When you use too much lavender, like most herbs, it will create the very symptoms it is supposed to alleviate. So, if you feel dizzy or lightheaded (Lavender is specific for vertigo), please discontinue use immediately; move to a ventilated area and sit down until the symptoms pass. Try a smaller dose next time.
