Arthritis Formula Massage Oil
Originally formulated to help alleviate the symptoms of my Mom’s Rheumatoid Arthritis, this product has been building a fan base far and wide. The basic formulation is similar to the Lavender Massage Oil – with the addition of St. John’s Wort infused Olive oil and six other essential oils designed specifically to increase circulation to the area, while warming the tissues and relieving arthritis pain. Lavender (Lavandin ‘Grosso’) essential oil is reviving yet calming, and has a long tradition of being one of the most versatile essences therapeutically. While used for the circulation, muscles and joints, Lavender is specifically used for lumbago, muscular aches & pains, rheumatism and sprains.
Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) essential oil is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antiviral, bactericidal, counter-irritant, stimulant, soothes sore muscles, joints & ligaments.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) essential oil has been used as a spice and remedy in the Far East for thousands of years. Ginger is one of the prized herbs in the Chinese Materia Medica for many uses, including rheumatism. Analgesic, anti-oxidant, anti-spasmodic, antiseptic, and a stimulant; Ginger is an excellent for muscular aches and pains, poor circulation, rheumatism, sprains and strains.
Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis) essential oil helps expel the build-up of uric acid in the joints and is employed in gout, rheumatism and arthritis. Juniper is antirheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antitoxic, aphrodisiac, tonic and a nervine.
Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) essential oil is currently listed in the British Pharmacopoeia for arthritis, gout, muscular aches and pain, poor circulation and rheumatism. Native to Indonesia and Sri Lanka, Nutmeg’s actions are analgesic, antioxidant, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, stimulant and tonic.
Peppermint (Menta piperita) essential oil has been cultivated since ancient times in China and Japan. Analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antimicrobial, astringent, antispasmodic, nervine and vasoconstrictor, Peppermint in cases of neuralgia, muscular pain and palpitations associated with the circulation, muscles and joints.
Helichrysm (Helichrysum angustafolium) essential oil renowned for pain relief, it eases muscle & joint pain and inflammation, rheumatism, sprains and strained muscles. Helichrysum is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, astringent and a nervine. In addition, it is used for acne, boils, burns, cuts, and eczema.
Virginia Cedar (Juniperis virginiana) essential oil is made up of decoctions of leaves, bark, twigs and fruit that were used by Native Americans to treat a variety or aliments, including rheumatism and arthritis. Virginian Cedarwood is anti-spasmodic, astringent, sedative and stimulant, and used specifically for increasing circulation and treating arthritis and rheumatism of the muscles and joints.
St. John’s Wort infused in Olive Oil has been used since the Middle Ages to reduce muscular pain and relieve skin conditions of a nervous origin. St. John’s Wort Oil is anti-inflammatory which can help speed the healing of wounds, bruises, varicose veins, sunburns, bee stings, and mild burns. Analgesic, astringent and an overall wonderfully healing skin herb.
Apply liberally and gently massage into sore muscles and joints.
